Woof! South Devon is blessed with some of the finest countryside, coastline and woodland in the country so it’s no surprise to find that it’s a great place to bring man’s – and woman’s – best friend. There are hundreds of carefully signposted and waymarked footpaths, bridleways and byways to explore with lots of tried and tested dog-friendly walks. So whether you fancy getting the wind in your hair on Devon’s rolling hills, strolling down its leafy lanes, or finding your way through the many woodland trails, there will be a walk your fourlegged friend will relish.

Of course, it’s the beach that calls the loudest to many visitors – and dogs are no exception! What could be more fun than scampering over the sand and running into the waves; or exploring rock pools and digging in the dunes?

But in the interests of safety and public health, there are certain limitations on some beaches. Below is a list of beaches from our friends at Doggy Devon which welcome dogs all year round (this list could change throughout the year):

  • Dawlish Warren Beach
  • Dawlish Warren
  • South Milton Sands, near Kingsbridge
  • Teignmouth River Beach, Teignmouth
  • Strete Gate Beach, Dartmouth
  • Soar Mill Cove, near Salcombe
  • Slapton Sands, Slapton
  • Salcombe North Sands, Salcombe
  • Ness Cove, Shaldon
  • Mill Bay, Salcombe
  • Lannacombe Beach, near Kingsbridge
  • East Portlemouth, near Salcombe
  • Bigbury on Sea, near Kingsbridge
  • Beesands Beach, near Kingsbridge

And when it comes to dog-friendly places to stay, we’ve got it covered. We have over 100 properties all over South Devon where well behaved pooches will be most welcome. That means your property choice will never be limited. Choose the area you fancy and then choose from the dog-friendly houses, barn conversions, seaside apartments in popular resorts or rural retreats.
