We are spoiled for choice here in the south west with all the amazing places that we have on our door step.
One of my favourite places to visit that’s just around the corner from my home in Brixham is Coleton Fishacre. This is a fabulous 1920’s house with gardens that are perfect for those with green fingers. The coastal walks to both Brixham and Kingswear are also a family favourite with views that will take your breath away.
Another great day out is Greenway, this is the old holiday home of Agather Christie, and her grandson is a frequent visitor. Greenway house is great to look round and the house stewards are a fountain of knowledge. The transport roots to Greenway are most interesting, you can go via steam train, boat or car.
One of the less well known but still worth a visit is Compton Castle. This is one of the few properties where the downer family still live. Compton Castle has been in the Gilbert family for over 600years. Sir Humphrey Gilbert was the half-brother to Sir Walter Raleigh. This castle is full of history and it set in lovely gardens one of which is a rose garden which is really something in full bloom.
Got more time to explore? Here’s some other amazing places to visit:
Berry Pomeroy Castle and Dartmoor Castle
