There are so many fantastic days out to be enjoyed in South Devon, but here are our top picks!

1. Overbeck's Museum and Garden, Salcombe

The best for eccentric inventions

This once used to be the home of Otto Overbeck, an eccentric inventor and collector who filled the house with a diverse collection of items, including art, natural history specimens and a display relating to the maritime history of the area. There are also loads of amazing gardens to explore.

2. Paignton Sands, Paignton

The best for a beach day

With a sandy beach, safe swimming and a whole host of activities to enjoy, this promises to be a fun day out for all the family. There's lots to do; you can hire a pedalo, take a fishing trip from the nearby harbour or simply sit back and relax in a deckchair.

3. Sharpham Vineyard and Cheese Dairy, Ashprington Nr. Totnes

The best for wine tasting

Take a tour around this beautiful 550-acre estate with 12,000 vines and a herd of 80 Jersey cows, then tickle those taste buds with a tasting session of both red and white wines and soft cheeses.

4. Kents Cavern, Torquay

The best for archaeological discoveries

This is one of the most important Stone Age sites in Europe. You'll go back to a time when the cave was home to ancient humans. As you walk through the extensive labyrinth of caverns, you'll be surrounded by 400 million year old rocks and spectacular stalagmites and stalacites.

5. Golden Hind Museum Ship, Brixham

The best for "shiver me timbers"

There's so much to see and explore above and below the five decks of the Golden Hind Muesum Ship, with many hands on exhibits, giving visitors of all ages a wonderful insight into life aboard Sir Francis Drake's Tudor galleon.
