Things to do in and around Kingswear
A five-minute drive away and well worth a visit is Colleton Fishacre, the former home of the D’orly Carte Family. Take a walk through the stunning gardens which drop down steeply to the sea or step right back to the 1920’s by a visit inside this grand building. This National Trust house is open all year and if you are visiting at Christmas don’t miss the Iluminated garden events.
There are plenty of walks to enjoy including one around the coast to Froward Point where Brownstone Battery, one of the few surviving second world war coastal defences sits. A little further up the hillside is the National Coastguard Watch tower, run by a team of volunteers keeping watch for emergencies at sea.
The Round Robin is a very popular attraction involving a steam train ride, vintage bus and steam boat. Jump on board the steam train at Kingswear station and enjoy the stunning views as you travel along the River Dart, through rolling South Devon countryside taking in the traditional town of Paignton and the medieval market town of Totnes.
