Sitting on the East bank of the River Dart, Kingswear (or “Sunnyside” as it is sometimes referred to by locals) is close to the river’s mouth and boasts some of the most beautiful views of Dartmouth on the opposite side.
From Kingswear you can jump on either the car or passenger ferry across the River to Dartmouth to enjoy the delights that the Town has to offer. Also, from here, you can catch the Steam Train traveling along the River Dart and past Greenway Estate, home of the late Agatha Christie, then heading across viaducts and through tunnels before heading along the coast to Paignton and the English Riviera. Another National Trust property located in Kingswear is Coleton Fishacre, a Arts & Crafts style house set amid gardens in a spectacular coastal setting and once the home of Rupert and Dorothy D’Oyly Carte.
Kingswear Village Regatta, held at the end of June, offers a busy weekend of fun events for all ages and is based around Waterhead Creek and Jubilee Park which is at the end of the Creek. Events range from rowing, a Dog Show, to racing 1000 ducks.
